Mervin L Lockyer, age 80, of Blue Springs, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, November 13, 2024 in Lee's Summit, MO. He was born March 30th, 1944 in Chilliwack, BC, Canada to Albert and Gladys Lockyer. He was later joined by siblings LeRoy, Wayne, and Kathy. He graduated from East High School after which he entered military service as an MP with the US Army in Permissions, Germany. Following his term of service, he pursued college work at U.M.K.C. Mervin was united in marriage to Shirlee Ann (Schneider) Lockyer on December 27th, 1969. Together, they have two children, Christine Davis of Grain Valley, who with her husband Ben has two children, Emma and Nathan; and Duane Lockyer of Lee's Summit who with his wife Ashley, have a son, Grayson. Mervin was employed thirty years with Associated Wholesale Grocers. His entrepreneurial spirit engaged him in owning "Lockyer Energy Systems" and "Reliable Quality Lawn Care" businesses. He enjoyed as well having a booth at the annual Blue Springs "Fall Fun Fest". Mervin was an avid sportsman/outdoorsman, he relished being in the woods and on the hunt for deer, duck, geese, and turkey. Fishing was the sport he most enjoyed post his retirement, and most mornings would find him in his outfitted boat somewhere on Lake Jacomo.
Mervin was a man of deep and abiding faith in his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. As an outgrowth of that faith, he served in various church activities that included bus and lawn ministries, as well as being an active participant in the Impact benevolent ministry, He also enjoyed participation in Bible study and life groups as well. He was a devout member of Abundant Life Church Blue Springs.
Mervin not only leaves a legacy of faith, but of love and devotion to family to include his enjoyment of his grandchildren. He was caring and generous spirit! He is, and will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Mervin's name to Impact Ministries (Blue Springs), Abundant Life, or Samaritan's Purse.
A visitation for Mervin will be held Monday, November 18, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel, 509 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO 64050. A funeral service will occur Tuesday, November 19, 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, 509 S. Noland Road, Independence, MO 64050. A burial will occur following the service at Missouri Veterans Cemetery located at Higginsville, 20109 Bus, Higginsville, MO 64037.
