Born, April 13, 1928, to Orel Reeves Hrdlicka and Octavius J. Hrdlicka in their farm home near Cainsville, Missouri. Mary and her two sisters, Virginia Hrdlicka Steinike and Norma Hrdlicka Phillips, were raised in rural Mercer County where there was a large Bohemian community. She attended a one room school, Red Rock Elementary and Cainsville High School, graduating in 1948. Following graduation, she moved to the Kansas City area studying at Central Business College while earning her room and board as a child nanny. After finishing her business courses, she worked at several companies primarily in the insurance adjuster business. In May of 1969 she married Frank Weldon and soon moved into their long-time home in Independence, Missouri. They shared two stepchildren, Larry and Carol. Larry, and his wife Becky, along with their children Kristyl and Kerri of North Carolina, brought her great joy. Frank and Mary attended Trinity Presbyterian Church in Independence and enjoyed being involved there. Frank, the love of her life, passed away in 2001.
Mary will be missed by her surviving sister Norma and husband Carol Phillips of Alamo, Texas, and son Larry Weldon and family of North Carolina. Her nieces and nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, along with their friends, all referred to her as Aunt Mary. This sweet soul will be missed.
A visitation for Mary will be held Wednesday, January 11, 2023, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Newcomer's Noland Road Chapel, 509 S Noland RD, Independence, Missouri 64050. Following the visitation will be a committal service at Mt Washington Cemetery, 614 S Brooking Ave, Independence, MO 64053.
