He is preceded in death by his parents, Lewis and Christine, mother and father-in-law, Jim and Janice Baker, brother-in-law, Darren Baker (Carolyn), and sister-in-law, Darla Cook.
Ken is survived by his wife, Debra Baker Gilpin, sister, Phyllis Yaglowski (Carl), brother, Dick Gilpin (Kathleen), stepdaughters: Elisha Beale Roberts, Betsy Roach (Austen), Caroline Myers (Gabe), Alanna Douglas Sunberg, and stepson, Jacob Moody (Kyra). He is also survived by nieces and nephews: Julie Gilpin-McMinn (Randy), Heidi Neff (Jody), Debi Dobbins (Leiann), Steven Yaglowski (Becky), Mark Yaglowski (Kimberly), Dustin Baker, Andrew Baker, and James Cook (Sara). Kenny loved his blended family with nine grandchildren and twelve grand-nieces and grand-nephews.
Kenny attended Northern Illinois University, where he was known as “Gup” by his classmates and laughed that he was known as the ‘best bullpen catcher’ on the baseball team. A commercial electrician, he continued to ‘pull wire’ in his sleep long after retirement. He will be remembered for his huge heart that he showed to everyone that crossed his path, and for his kindness and generous nature, especially for his family. Kenny loved gospel music and, when asked which songs were his favorites, he would say, “all of them.” He loved dogs (everyone’s) and sports, especially baseball. He relished 2016, the year the Cubbies won the World Series. His infectious smile, dad jokes, and his ‘dimple for days’ will be dearly missed.
A Ken Gilpin memorial has been established with Hope Church Youth Missions and Camp.
Service will be held at Hope Church | 2000 South Hillside | Wichita, KS 67211, on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, at 10:00am.
