Eighty nine years ago my mother was born. Her folks were common folks, they were hard working and dependable and those were the first life lessons that she learned and she leaned them well. She understood that you did what you said you would do and to have no fear of a hard day’s work. These tenets stood her well through her eighty-nine years of history. She was the center of our family, the matriarch that many called on when in need and she would answer those calls; giving aid and comfort without consideration of her own comfort and asking for nothing in return. When my father, Maxie passed on she devoted herself to my brother, Rocky, myself, our wives, Patty and Linda, to her grandchildren, Allison and Alexa, Roxanna, Kim and Jeff, to the grandchildren’s children and their children, she loved each and every one with the same endless supply of good humor and caring benevolence.
She was in the hearts of a great many. When they wake in the early morning light, something will be missing that can’t be replaced; there will be an empty spot that her love once filled. We can only remember the kindness and love that she has given us each and every one. Sadly, she will be missed, but we are very fortunate to have known her love. Mother, grandmother, great-grandma and great-great-granny; may she rest in peace. ~ Will Smith, INDEPENDENCE, MO.
