He was born in Seminole, OK in 1927 to Grace Avery and Charley Williams. Bert attended Selma High School in Selma, CA before joining the United States Marines. He later owned Bert Williams Body Shop and Auto Color and Equipment.
Bert enjoyed being outdoors, mowing, feeding the birds, gardening, watching Chiefs games, and attending his great grandson's sporting events. He loved to talk cars and could often be found sweeping the floors in his grandson's body shop. Bert's greatest love was people. He often said how grateful he was for the blessings he received from God, and the generosity he received from people throughout his life, that contributed to his successes. He loved paying it forward and doing things for others. He was gentle, kind, and encouraged all to "keep smiling".
Bert was preceded in death by his mother Grace Avery, father Charley Williams, sister Ruth, two brothers Tommy and Clifford, wife Wanda, and son Jon. He is survived by his sister Jean Booth, 99, of Fresno, CA, three grandsons Jon Williams and Jeremy (Leryn) Williams of Independence, MO, Justin Williams of Germany, and six great grandchildren Rebecca, Bailey, Elliott, Brandon, Flynn, and Braylon.
Bert was loved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. His loss will be felt deeply by his family, friends, and the community. All are invited to join the Williams family on Friday, December 13, between 4:00-7:00 pm for a visitation service at Newcomers Noland Road Chapel on 509 S Noland Rd in Independence. A funeral service will be held Saturday, December 14, at 11:00 am.
