William John MacDonald, 69, of Hyannis, died Monday, June 5, 2017. He was born in Brighton, MA to his late parents William A. and Mary M. MacDonald. He moved to Cape Cod as a toddler with his family and remained a life-long resident. Billy was a Barnstable High School Graduate. Soon after graduation he traveled to California where he joined the US Army. He was a proud Vietnam War Veteran and recipient of the National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary and Good Conduct Medals. He also received the Marksman and Sharpshooter Badge.
Before his employment with Mass Bay Company, Billy worked in landscaping and painting. He helped open the Mass Bay Hyannis and Martha's Vineyard locations and managed the Vineyard army and navy surplus store. Before his retirement Billy also worked for the US Post Office in Bourne, MA for several years.
Billy enjoyed visiting with his friends in Florida, family gatherings the Holidays and going out to eat. He was an avid Boston sports fan.
Billy is predeceased by his brother Robert L. MacDonald and sister Dorothy E. Gates. He is survived by his brother Douglas M. MacDonald and sister June Margaret Nese. He also leaves behind several loving nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Visiting hours will take place Thursday, June 15th from 11am-1pm at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, MA, 02601. A committal service with military honors will follow at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, MA.
