Michael J. Reilly, a respected leader in the investment world and a dedicated philanthropist, passed away on August 14th, leaving behind a legacy of professional excellence and community service. Born and raised in Massachusetts, Michael's life was marked by a passion for finance, a love for golf, and an unwavering commitment to helping others.
Michael's illustrious career in the investment business spanned over three decades, beginning with his role as an institutional sales representative at the First National Bank of Boston. He quickly rose through the ranks, taking on leadership roles at Bache Halsey Stuart and later founding Corby Capital Markets, Inc., where he served as Chairman and CEO. Under his stewardship, Corby Capital became a regional leader in the underwriting and distribution of fixed-income securities.
Michael's contributions were not limited to the world of finance. He was deeply involved in charitable endeavors, serving as the Board Chair of Summer Search Boston, an organization dedicated to empowering low-income high school students. His work with the Massachusetts Golf Association (MGA) and The First Tee program demonstrated his commitment to providing opportunities for youth to learn and grow through the game of golf. Michael's vision and leadership helped establish the MGA FirstTee Kids Golf Program and secured a permanent home for it at a facility in Norton, Massachusetts, impacting the lives of over 20,000 young people.
A man of many talents, Michael was also an avid golfer, holding memberships at several prestigious clubs, including the Dedham Country & Polo Club, Shinnecock Hills Golf Club, and the Somerset Club in Boston. He served on the Executive Committee of the Massachusetts Golf Association and was President of the organization in 2002. His dedication to the sport was matched only by his commitment to making it accessible to all.
Michael is survived by his daughter, Amanda Reilly of Wellesley, MA, and his four stepchildren and their families: Lisa and Scott Bettencourt of Hull, MA, Robert and Stephanie Collier of Holliston, MA, Laura Duvall of Natick, MA, and Liam and Jennifer Street of Scituate, MA.
