She leaves behind her sons Robinson Traywick (18) and Kane Traywick (15), her father John Kane (Centerville), sister Beth Kane (Charleston SC), brother Matt Kane (Denver) and former spouse Samuel Traywick (Centerville). Her death was preceded by her mother Rita Kane in May 2019. Kristen also leaves behind six nieces and nephews who were very special to her in this life.
She was a devoted mother and Adjunct Professor for Language and Literature at Cape Cod Community College. She earned her Master’s Degree in Education from Wheelock College and her BA from Salve Regina University. Prior to her position at the Community College, she taught elementary school in Manomet, MA. Prior to that, she worked in banking in Boston and lived independently in Charlestown, MA.
Kristen had a passion for teaching and for making connections with her students – often touching their lives beyond the classroom. She loved being part of the local college community where so many were touched by her beautiful spirit, her uplifting smile and humor. She served as the College’s longtime Civic Engagement Coordinator and a favorite voice of support and encouragement for the students. She connected countless students with volunteer opportunities in the community and regularly led campaigns within the College to get out the vote for local, state and national elections. Kristen provided daily support to the College students, advising them and helping make connections with other areas of the College. Her passion for helping others and bettering the world resonated with the students and her colleagues where she will be deeply missed.
Above all else, Kristen loved being a mom and making a home for her sons Robinson and Kane. She created a stable and nourishing home, enabling her sons to pursue their interests in sports, shuttling them to countless hockey, baseball, tennis, and golf games and tournaments. She was proud to see her son Robinson enroll in concurrent college courses while in high school and earn a full year of college credits. She was also proud to take Robinson to start his freshman year at College of Charleston in recent weeks. She shared with family and friends many clips of her son Kane skiing back-flips on the slopes and catching striped bass larger than himself.
