It is with broken hearts that the family of John F. Harrington, of Barnstable, announces his passing on April 10, 2022. He was born in Somerville, MA on July 8, 1962, and graduated from Somerville High School in 1981. He earned his bachelor’s and MBA degrees from Bentley College.
John was predeceased by his parents, Raymond and Elizabeth Harrington, and by his brother, Raymond Harrington. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Eileen (Bent) Harrington, and by his adored children, John Jr., Catherine, Robert and Patrick. He will be deeply missed by his father- and mother-in-law, Robert and Eleanor Bent, as well as by his six brothers-in-law, seven sisters-in-law, fifteen nieces and nephews, and many friends.
John was kind, helpful, friendly, and loved to laugh. He was a volunteer coach in Barnstable Little League and Barnstable Youth Hockey for years. He enjoyed large family gatherings where he often organized Ultimate Frisbee, wiffle ball, Kan Jam and beach volleyball games. He was an avid Boston sports fan. Above all else, John loved his family. He cherished every moment spent with his four children. They are his beautiful and lasting legacy.
“To laugh often and much; To win the respect of intelligent people and the affection of children; To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; To appreciate beauty; To find the best in others; To give of oneself; To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; To have played and laughed with enthusiasm and sung with exultation; To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived – This is to have succeeded.” Ralph Waldo Emerson
Services are private. A celebration of John’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name at NAMI Cape Cod (namicapecod.org/donate).
