James E. Lloyd, 84, died peacefully on June 12 at home, surrounded by family. He was a man of deep integrity and strength, of boundless energy and optimism, of curiosity about everyone and everything.
Jim was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, brother and brother-in-law; he was a friend to everyone he met. Born in 1933 to Catherine and Morrell Lloyd in Ohio, they later moved to California where Jim spent a good part of his life.
Jim served in the Navy during the Korean War, and always felt fortunate to have spent those four years on Coronado Island, California. He had a long and highly successful career in sales, first with Pet Milk, then Bristol Labs and Medical Development Corporation. He later joined Becton Dickinson in New Jersey, and met his wife, Susan. They raised their family in Kinnelon, part of a close-knit group of friends and neighbors. Jim retired from Becton Dickinson after 17 years, and in 2013, they moved to Centerville.
Jim is survived by his wife Susan of Centerville, his daughter Judith Schafbuch and husband Kent of Salt Lake City, his daughter Allison Lloyd of Pennsylvania, his son Andrew Lloyd of Medway, and his brother Bud Lloyd and wife Elaine of South Carolina. Jim was the devoted grandfather of Christopher Schafbuch and wife Amanda of Salt Lake City, Danielle Dees and husband Richard of Oklahoma City, and great grandfather to Elise, Jameson and Hadley. Jim was a loving uncle to many nieces and nephews, and an admired and adored brother-in-law. Jim was pre-deceased by his parents and his step-father O.D. Smith.
