George Patrick McLaughlin, 86, passed away peacefully of natural causes, at home with his family by his side on November 29, 2022. Born in Boston to Cornelius “Neil” and Mary McLaughlin he served in the US Army from 1954 to 1957 in Germany.
George is the loving husband of Ann M. (Doherty) McLaughlin (Jamaica Plain) of 63 years. He is survived by his wife and 6 children, Neil and his wife Dawn of Indiana, George D. and his wife Hiromi of Narita Japan, Daniel and his wife Margaret of Dedham Massachusetts, JoAnn and her fiancé Jamie Toale of Lunenburg Massachusetts, Tim and his wife Lori of Zionsville Indiana, and Susan of Hyannis Massachusetts.
George was blessed with 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Adam McLaughlin, Shoh McLaughlin, Han McLaughlin, Riku McLaughlin, Colin Walsh, Meaghan Berger, Gabe McLaughlin, Hugh McLaughlin, Declan McLaughlin, Georgianna Grevelis, Yo McLaughlin, Demetri Grevelis, Liam McLaughlin and Lorenzo McLaughlin.
Known as Papa to his grandchildren, he was always quick with a joke, and there was always laughter when Papa was around. He loved to play Bridge at the Senior Center and cribbage with his children and grandchildren around the family table.
George was an avid fisherman, card player and baseball fanatic. He enjoyed the company of friends, as he attended many “guys weekends” playing cards, golfing, and fishing. He would patiently wait to catch the Big One fishing on summer days. He especially loved taking his sons and grandchildren fishing where they would spend a quiet day casting.
He coached little league baseball for 15 years where he lived with his family on Essex St. in Marlboro, MA for 35 years. Coaching his sons was his joy even though he could be tough on all the players wanting them to play to their potential. He brought out the best in them and is beloved by a whole generation of baseball kids.
A visitation will be held on Friday, December 2nd from 3 to 7 p.m. at Doane Beal & Ames, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis.
