CENTERVILLE - Doris Carolyn Chase, 83, died peacefully on September 28, 2011, at Cape Regency. Born in Brewster, she was a lifelong resident of Cape Cod, living her entire life in Hyannis. As a beautiful young woman she was a housekeeper, waitress at the former Mitchell’s Ice Cream shop and Hill’s Dining Room, wife and mother. She loved the Cape, its sandy beaches, and said she would not live anywhere else because the Cape’s beach sand was between her toes. She was an avid reader and enjoyed solving puzzles.
Doris leaves her sisters Florence DeMattos of Hyannis, Gloria Karram of Marstons Mills and Davie, FL, Violet DePonte and Jean White and June Texeira, of Falmouth. She also leaves her former husband Richard Ellis of Cocoa, FL, and their children Douglas and his wife Angela, Richard and his wife Linda, Mark, and Deborah; and former husband Robert Whittemore and their son Brian and his wife Shelley. She also leaves brothers-in-law and many grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren, nephews and nieces, and friends.
Doris was predeceased by her parents Carlton W. and Vivian M. (Rogers) Chase, both of Brewster and Hyannis; stepfather Alfred Crowley; nieces Brenda Raposa of Falmouth and Suzanne Salo of Hyannis and Fort Lauderdale, FL; nephew Douglas LaRose of Royal Oak, MI; and brothers-in-law Dennis DePonte and George Raposa of Falmouth, and Wilfred Ellis of Dennisport.
The family is grateful to the staffs of Cape Regency including Patti and Judy, and SolAmor Hospice including Joann, for the care given to Doris. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Neediest Family Fund, c/o Cape Cod Times, Hyannis, MA 02601. Visitation ending with a memorial service, to which relatives and friends are invited, will be on Sunday, October 2nd, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, at Doane, Beal & Ames, 160 West Main Street, Hyannis, MA. Interment will be private. Donations in her memory may be sent to Cape Cod Times Needy Fund P.O. Box 36 Hyannis, Ma 02601.
