Born in Hyannis on February 22, 1929, he was a son of the late Leonard and Cora (Mayo) Burch. Donald proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War until he was honorably discharged in 1953.
For over 50 years, Donald owned and operated the Hyannis Package Store. He was an active member of the community. Donald enjoyed spending time outdoors and pursuing his love of photography. He adopted the rotary near the package store and was recognized by the Rotary Club for his landscaping and flower plantings. Up until recently, Donald was an active bicyclist, participating in cross country rides in the US and Europe as well as many road races. He also ran the Boston Marathon multiple times and the Last Gasp Run.
Donald is survived and will be deeply missed by his daughter, Donna Burch of Florida; three grandchildren; one great grandchild; a brother, Richard Burch of South Carolina; and his companion of many years and the love of his life, Jean Clough of Barnstable Village; as well as many friends.
In addition to his parents, Donald was predeceased by his sister, Betsy Frisby.
A gathering for friends and family will be held at Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W Main St, Hyannis, on Saturday, October 14th from 10 to 11 a.m., directly followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. in Beechwood Cemetery, 1705 Falmouth Rd., Centerville.
