As the sun set on December 3rd, 2024, when a crescent moon and Venus rose in the Southwest sky, our beloved Charles (Chuck) F. Lockhart passed away, a day after turning 95. His heart gave out but his spirit and humor remained intact until the end. As known to his family and countless friends, he was a man of integrity, honor, wisdom and laughter who enjoyed a great zest for life.
Chuck came from a strong military family; his father was an Army Colonel and his brother was an Air Force LT fighter pilot in three wars. In the early 50’s, Chuck joined the army as a Corporal during the Korean War. While attending the University of Connecticut, he was a Forestry Major and, for the rest of his life, carried a deep and abiding appreciation for nature whether sailing Nantucket Sound or enjoying the camps in Brewster and New Hampshire.
Chuck’s professional life centered around Cape Cod real estate. He was Chief Executive of the Cape Cod and Islands Board of Realtors for 12 years and so dedicated to his work that the board created the Charles F. Lockhart Distinctive Service Award in recognition of long-term service, fairness, integrity and cooperation in the industry.
He had a great love and affinity for the Hyannis Yacht Club and was a member from the age of 13 beginning as a Junior Member. He served as both Commodore and General Manager and was on numerous committees over the years. He volunteered for many causes during his lifetime — Camp Fire Girls, local government, Cape Cod Hospital, and the Cultural Center to name a few. He believed that the contribution of one for the benefit of many is its own reward.
He is survived by his wife Keran (Crawford) MacIsaac Lockhart; his three children with his first wife Betty (Burnham) Lockhart –Carole Lockhart, Deborah Lockhart Phillips, and Charles “Rick” F. Lockhart, Jr.; and his three step-children Abbie MacIsaac Spicer (husband Dave), Andrew MacIsaac (wife AnnMarie) and Amy MacIsaac. He was Poppy to his seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He will be dearly missed by friends and family. Please think of him when a crescent moon appears in the evening sky. A private service will be held by family; and a Celebration of Life in May. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation or the Barnstable Land Trust.
