Charles N. “Chick” Fuller of Barnstable Village, MA passed away after a brief illness on November 30, 2024 at the age of 88. Chick was born and raised in Brockton, son of the late Charles A. and Helen L. (Sampson) Fuller. He attended Valley Forge Military Academy and graduated in 1954 and subsequently received a business degree from Boston University in 1958.
Chick started his career cleaning the elevator shaft of The Brockton Enterprise at 14. After college, he was a sports reporter at the Lynn Item, before returning to the family business as the classified advertising manager. He then worked his way up to business manager and ended his career as Publisher prior to the sale of The Enterprise in 1996.
He was an avid volunteer, serving on the board of directors of the Old Colony YMCA, the Hanover Finance Committee and the Barnstable Fire District Prudential Committee as well as being a lifelong member of the Rotary Club of Brockton. He also served as a call firefighter in Hanover, retiring at the rank of lieutenant when he moved to Barnstable. When he wasn’t volunteering, he was hunting, fishing or travelling to exotic places, especially Key West, where he would spend every January.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn (Cumming) Fuller, who he married on December 8, 1962 after a three month courtship. He is also survived by his loving family: Duncan Fuller of Framingham and Jamie and Ann (Stewart) Fuller of Melbourne, FL and his six grandchildren: Nathaniel of Mayfield NY; Evan of Blackstone MA; Spencer of Upton MA, Liam of Tallahassee FL, Amber of Brighton MA, and Aidan of Rochester NY. He is also survived by his sister, Nancy Boyd of Easton.
Calling hours will be at the Doane Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 160 W. Main St., Hyannis, Friday, December 6th from 3:00-7:00 PM. Mourners are encouraged to wear Key West themed attire to celebrate Chick’s love of life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Fuller Craft Museum in Brockton, the Barnstable Historical Society or the Tunnels To Towers Foundation.
