William "Tom" Thomas King

Col. William “Tom” Thomas King, Retired US Army, beloved father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2024, at the age of eighty-nine. Tom was born on May 9, 1935, in Wainsboro, Georgia to J. Fred King, Sr & Etta Mae King who preceded him in death. In addition to his parents Tom is preceded in death by his loving wife, Bettye Gutierrez King, his sister Diane King Smith, and his brother J. Fred King, Jr.

Tom was a Vietnam Veteran that served as an Officer in the US Army from 1957-1987. He was a graduate of Mercer University, where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. He enjoyed traveling with Bettye, his wife, he had an interest in genealogy, he was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, and the Alabama Crimson Tide, he enjoyed traveling with his family to attend games in person.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter; Michelle King Herrington and her husband Bryan Herrington, grandsons; Travis Herrington, Dylan Herrington, Jason Robson, Dustin Robson, and granddaughter; Heather Robson Hutton.

Visitation for Tom will be held Saturday September 28, 2024, from 1pm to 2pm at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. The celebration of life service will begin at 2pm at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Tom will be laid to rest in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville, AL in the Garden of Valor.
