Wallace “Wally” Earl Jordan, 90, of Huntsville, died peacefully at home on April 1, 2022. He was born on January 14, 1932 in Tarrant, Alabama to David and Mary Jordan. He grew up in Grand Bay, Alabama and attended Mobile County High School. Following high school, he served in the United States Air Force as an Electronics Instructor. After leaving the Air Force, he attended The University of Alabama and received a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, and later received a Master’s degree in Industrial Engineering.
Wallace worked for the Air Force after college in Mobile, Alabama. There he met and married the love of his life, Rachel Woods in 1957. A few years later, the couple moved to Huntsville, where Wallace went to work for NASA. Together they raised three boys, and were longtime members of Weatherly Heights Baptist Church. He worked in various roles for NASA for more than 25 years, and after retirement, continued his career with positions at McDonnell Douglas Aerospace, and TRW Inc. While at NASA, he worked on several programs, including Skylab, the High Energy Astronomy Observatory, and Spacelab. While working on Spacelab, he lived in Germany for four years as part of a NASA team working with the European Space Agency.
Wallace enjoyed traveling, and spending time with his family and friends. He traveled to most of the US, and several European countries, and later enjoyed spending time at Orange Beach and the Great Smokey Mountains. His favorite pastimes were playing cards, dominos, and working puzzles with friends and family. He was a loving father and Papaw to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, and enjoyed time spent with them at home, trips to the beach and Disney World. Wallace loved his family very much and enjoyed visiting with his brothers, sisters and many nephews and nieces. He will be greatly missed by our family and many others who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Sister Lois Ketchum, and Brother David Jordan Jr.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Rachel; sister Jean Courtney (Charles); sister Mary Ellen Middleton; brother Wesley Jordan; son Wallace Jordan Jr. (Valarie); son Kelly Jordan (Tamela); son Craig Jordan (Tracy); grandchildren, Brad Jordan (Ashley), Amanda Martin (Brandon), Ryan Jordan (Amanda), Matt Jordan (Danielle), Bryan Tucker, Chelsey Jordan (Corey), Ashley Vanhoose (Josh), Courtney Wade (Max), Dillon Jordan (Danielle), Taylor Wetzel, Kyle Jordan, Caden Jordan, and sixteen great grandchildren.
A visitation for Wallace will be held Friday, April 8, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Following visitation will be the celebration of life service with military honors at 11:00 AM at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811.
