She is proceeded in death by: her father Albert Goodpaster, mother Christine Bridges, sisters Kim Bridges and Shirley Jean Brandau all of Huntsville, a nephew Paul Brandau of Chicago. She is survived by two sisters: Judy Bibby, Lacey Springs, AL and Kathy McCartney of Toney, AL. Two nieces: Angie Williams of Harvest and Anna Schmidt of Warner Robbins GA. Two nephews: Troy McCartney of Madison, AL and Adam McCartney of Davenport, IA. Five great-nephews and 3 great-nieces.
Diane was the oldest daughter of Christine’s five girls and often took on the mothering role with her sisters. This is a trait that she carried with her for her entire life. She was always wanted to help in difficult situations especially with her family.
On August 13, 1969, she married her best friend, Charles Atchley. Diane and Charles never had children of their own, so she continued to “mother” her sisters lovingly. They moved to Chicago where they stayed for some thirty years before coming back home to Alabama. During her time in Chicago Diane worked in both the Medical and Engineering fields. Upon their return to Alabama, they purchased and operated a Shell Convivence Store on Main St. in Hartselle until retiring to Somerville, AL.
A visitation for Diane will be held on Thursday, November 11, 2021 from 1:00pm until 2:00pm, with Funeral Services to begin at 2:00pm at Valhalla Funeral Home. Burial will immediately follow at Valhalla Memory Gardens in the Garden of the Good Shepherd.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.valhallafunerals.com for the Atchley family.
