Carroll William “Skip” Minor, 88, died peacefully in his home in Calhoun, GA on Wednesday, May 15, 2024 with his wife, Mary Minor, and granddaughter, Ashley Minor Brown, by his side following a battle with the brutal disease of Vascular Dementia.
Skip was born on November 24,1935 to Clifford William and Elsie May Highland Minor in Columbus, NE. The family shortly thereafter moved to Center Point, IN where Skip attended the Ashboro School, graduating in 1953. Skip chose to enlist in the NAVY rather than being drafted, and served during the Korean and Vietnam Wars, aboard several USN aircraft carriers, including the Hornet, the Shangri-La, the Constellation, and the Enterprise. After earning the rank of Chief Petty Officer, Skip retired after 20 years of honorable service in 1973. Skip loved the NAVY and serving his country.
After retiring, Skip opened and ran several small businesses, retiring again in 2006 to faithfully care for his first wife, Audrey Anne Evans Minor, during her battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Following Audrey’s death, Skip married his long-time friend and business partner, Mary K. Waldorf, who then cared for him during his battle with Vascular Dementia.
A faithful member of and High Priest in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Skip lovingly ministered to many. He loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and served his Savior in Christ-like service.
A talented teacher, Skip taught in the Navy, in business, and in church callings, educating and uplifting many.
Skip is predeceased in death by his first wife, Audrey Anne Evans Minor; his parents, Clifford W. “Bud” and Elsie May Highland Minor; brothers, Harlan, James, and Keith; and sister, Barbara. Skip is survived by his sister, Pauline Minor Funk, brother, Kenneth Minor, second wife, Mary Kathryn Waldorf Minor; sons: Gregory Alan Minor, Sr., Kenneth Richard Minor (Tami), and Timothy Paul Minor (Faith); 14 grandchildren: Natalie, Greg, Jr., Adam; Jonna, Will, Adonna, Carolanne, Ken, Jr, Steve, Sam, Ashley, Evan, Brittany, and Jacob, as well as numerous great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. He is also survived by his step son and grandchildren, Jeremiah (Laurie), Emily, Whitney, and Russell.
Visitation for Carroll will be held Friday, May 24, 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Valhalla Funeral Home, 698 Winchester Rd Ne, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. The celebration of life service will be Saturday, May 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Valhalla Funeral Home Chapel, 698 Winchester Rd NE, Huntsville, Alabama 35811. Carroll will be laid to rest in Valhalla Memory Gardens, Huntsville, AL.
