Dean Edwin Stonebraker, 88, of Huntington passed away at 3:25 am on Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Parkview Regional Medical Center. Dean was a 1949 graduate of Huntington High School where he played varsity football and baseball. He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1951, graduated from Officer Candidate School in Fort Sill, Oklahoma and served in Korea. He served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1959 when he was discharged as a 1st Lieutenant. Dean worked at Hower Tool & Cutter Grinding in Ossian for 42 years, retiring in 1997. He was a member of St. Peter’s First Community Church where he served as a deacon and an usher for many years. He was a life member of VFW Post 2689 and American Legion Post 7 both in Huntington. Dean was a sports enthusiast having played softball for many years, officiating basketball games and was a loyal fan of local teams, the Cubs and IU.
Dean was born on July 18, 1931 in Huntington, the son of Dale and Mary (Stetzel) Stonebraker.
He was united in marriage to Anne Stephan on June 26, 1955 in Huntington. They celebrated 63 years of marriage. Anne preceded him in death on June 26, 2018. They were the parents of two children, Jeffrey Dean Stonebraker and Stephanie Anne (Stonebraker) Pyle. Both preceded him in death.
Survivors include a daughter-in-law: Paula Stonebraker of Jeffersonville, IN; step-grandson: Tyler Southard of New Albany; three brothers: Neil (Sandy) Stonebraker of Huntington; Arthur (Carol) Stonebraker of Kokomo; James Stonebraker of Roanoke; a sister: Norma (Rex) Jones of Huntington.
He was preceded in death by three brothers: Keith (Annie) Stonebraker, Richard (Neva) Stonebraker, Robert (Kate) Stonebraker and a sister: Lois Offutt.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2019 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm following visitation on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Zen Hess officiating.
Interment will be at the St. Peter’s First Community Cemetery, where VFW Post 2689 will perform graveside military rites.
