Darryl J. Smith, 77 of Huntington formally of Ft. Wayne passed away at 5:50pm on Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Darryl retired from International Harvester, Navistar and was a member of St. Peters First Community Church. Darryl served his country in the United States Army and was a member of the American Legion Post 241. Darryl was also a member of the Moose Lodge of Huntington.
Darryl was born December 3, 1936 in Ligonier, PA to Evelyn Hower Smith. He married the love of his life Janice I Craver. His wife Survives. Additional survivors include two daughters Mona (Tim) Dennie of Ft. Wayne, and Lisa (Jason) Harbuck of Huntington. A son James (Debbie) Smith of Huntington; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, two sisters, and four brothers. He was preceded in death by his mother and four brothers.
Darryl loved his grandchildren and great grandchildren, and enjoyed baking cookies for them. He enjoyed a good game of Bingo and a good auction. Darryl was and avid hunter and fisherman, and he loved the relaxing life at the lake.
Visitation will be held on Thursday February 27, 2014 from 3:00pm to 7:00pm at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel, located at 2901 Guilford Street Huntington, Indiana.
Funeral service will be held on Friday February 28, 2014 at 10:00 am with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Myers Funeral Home Huntington Chapel with Pastor Richard Strick officiating.
Interment will take place at the St. Peter’s First Cemetery in Huntington.
Memorial donations may be made out to the Historic Forks of the Wabash or to the St. Peters First Community Church, all in care of Myers Funeral Home, 2901 Guilford Street, Huntington, IN 46750.
