Alice Lee Poirier was called home, and peacefully passed away on January 12, 2023 after a brief illness.
Born in Westmoreland County, Pennsylvania, she was raised in Scottdale and attended Scottdale High School. Upon graduation, she moved to Bethesda, Maryland, where she met her future husband, Eric Norman Poirier. They were married in March 1956 and lived in Connecticut for a short time before settling in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, D.C. to start a family. She worked as an Executive Assistant for over thirty years at Arbitron Ceridian (now Nielsen Audio) in Columbia, Maryland, until her retirement. She lived in Frederick, Maryland for part of her retirement before moving to Philadelphia in 2013.
Called “Mimi” by all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she was the consummate listener and conversationalist, a patient and gentle confidant to whom many, many people often turned for judgment-free empathetic comfort, kind and soothing words, and a patient ear - earning her the nickname “Saint Alice.” Alice relished her quiet and peaceful life, loved her family more than anything else, especially loving how they made her laugh. She wished only to be remembered as honest and kind.
She is predeceased by her parents, Donald Earl and Florence Gertrude Bowman, a brother Donald Earl Bowman, Jr., and by her former husband, Eric Poirier, with whom she remained close, and took care of in his later years.
She is survived by her brother, Glenn Arden Bowman, and her three children, John Russell (Jack) Poirier, Lori Lee Poirier & Erica Lyn Poirier-Nix. She is also survived by six grandchildren: Juli Christine Troiano, Benito Antonio Troiano, Paige Raquel Troiano, Allyson Rachelle Nix, Abigail Clarisse Nix & Anelise Jeanette Nix. She is survived by three great-grandchildren: Darryl Cory Joseph, Jr., Sylvana Rose Miraballes, and Lilyana Elise Miraballes.
