John was born on October 18, 1932 in Abbeville, Louisiana, where other than three years in Orange, Texas, he grew up. At the age of 18 he left the swamps of Louisiana to join the United States Air Force, where he was stationed in Germany. There he met the love of his life, Norma Jean Pritchett of Toccoa, Georgia, also serving in the Air Force.
He returned home to Abbeville in late 1954 where he married the Georgia beauty, Norma, on February 5, 1955.
He then turned his attention to raising a family, graduating with a B.S. in geology from Southwestern Louisiana Institute at Lafayette and pursuing a career as a geophysicist in the Oil and Gas Exploration Industry. During his extensive career the family moved across many states including Louisiana, Oklahoma, Georgia and Texas, finally settling in Spring, Texas in 1977 where he and Norma kept a home together for 42 years. He retired after many years working for several companies, such as Skelly Oil Company, Natomas, and Williams Corporation.
John enjoyed many activities in life such as golfing, hunting and fishing. And being Scout Master for his three sons and taking two trips to Philmont scout camp in New Mexico, and many boy scout campouts.
Later in life John became a talented woodcrafter. Children, grandchildren, siblings, neighbors and friends all benefitted from his wood working skills. Gifts received included dollhouses, treasure chests, step stools, curio cabinets, shelves, coffee tables and many other various custom furniture pieces.
He had a great affinity for Volkswagen beetles, dachshunds, and Saturday Night Pizza with family and friends.
John is survived by his wife of 64 years, Norma Jean of Spring, Texas. His son David John Nunez and his wife Sandy of Edmond, Oklahoma, son Dean Joseph Nunez and his wife Gina of Madison, Alabama, son Donald James Nunez and his wife Mary of Spring, Texas, and daughter Patti Lynn Watson and husband Donnie of Bulverde, Texas. 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Many nieces and nephews.
John is preceded in passing by mother and father, Mary Olite Perry-Nunez and Joseph Murphy Nunez. His sisters Gladyce Pleasant of Sulphur, Louisiana, Sis Stoffer of Orange, Texas and Betty Fuller of Abbeville, Louisiana and brother Douglas Nunez of Austin, Texas.
