Joseph had a wonderful childhood and attended E.E. Butler high school and Morris Brown college in Georgia. June 9, 1971, to August 13, 1973, he served in the United States Army as Military Police and in the Vietnam war. After honorable discharge Joe B moved to Houston, Texas and started a new journey in life. In 1976 he met the love of his life Elizabeth Maxwell and wed February 25,1978. They raised five children together Patrick, Mellanise, Chippy, Joy, and Gladys. He also began his career as a warehouse worker for Butler Paper/Unisource for 38 years. He retired in 2015.
Papa cherished his family especially his Grandkids: Ronald "Boo-t", Dante', Dontrel, Ebonee, Treasure, Shadrach "Shaggy", Emilee, Breia "Poohdah" and Great-Grandson Jay'Vien Lamar. We know if Papa had the opportunity to meet great-grandsons Messiah and De'Angel he would have love them just as much.
His heart's desire was to provide for, love, and protect his family. His favorite things to do were reading, cracking jokes and hanging out in his favorite spot (garage) playing his records for hours. His passion was cooking Sunday dinners and serving the best soul food in town.
Preceding him in death parents M.C. & Gladys (Littlejohn) Butler; mother-in-love Katie Maxwell, daughter Mellanise Maxwell, and brother Veolice Butler. He is survived by his wife Elizabeth "Libba" sons Patrick (Michelle), Chippy, daughters Joy "Bae", and Gladys "Noonie" Grands & Great Grands Ronald, Dante, Dontrel, Ebonee, Treasure, Shadrach, Emilee, Breia, Jay'Vien, Messiah and De'Angel.
