Chief was born in the Kaw Indian Village of Washunga, OK on January 17, 1929 to Father Talbot “Tobi” Farnsworth and Mother Alta Farnsworth of Kaw City, OK. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his older sister, Viola Helen Farnsworth Pappan and husband Harry Pappan of Vancouver, WA; older brother John Farnsworth and wife Anita Farnsworth of Beaumont, KS; grandfathers So-Jum-Wah of Kaw Nation and George Boyle’s of Kaw City, OK.
He is survived by his loving wife Sue Baines Farnsworth of Spring, TX; His son, Herbert George “Bud” Farnsworth, Jr. of Houston, TX; daughter, Cathy Sue “Suzy” Brouillette of Ponca City, OK. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Richele “Chick” Herr of Navasota, TX, Harley Wayne Farnsworth and AnaKaren Juarez of Cypress, TX, and Rachel Nicole Farnsworth of Austin, TX and great-grandchildren Magnolia Mae Richele Herr of Navasota, TX and Penelope Jane “P.J.” Farnsworth of Cypress, TX. Also survived by step-children and grandchildren he loved deeply, daughter, Christie Maxwell Sandlin and husband Doug, of Houston, TX, son, Michael Roberts and wife Dusty of Traveling, USA and grandchildren Carli Maxwell, Caitlyn Maxwell, Jackson Sandlin and Abigail Sandlin, all of Houston, TX.
He also leaves behind nephews and nieces including Buford & Barbara Pappan, Sis Pappan, Sandy Rennie, Richard & Linda Rennie, Linda & Pat Thacker, Carl & Norma Farnsworth, Bobby Dixon, Sharon Pettigrew, Jimmy Dixon, Phillip & Sonia Roark, C’Ann Roark, David Vinson, Diane & Mike Willingham, Debbie & Keith Harrison, Scott Link, James Weisinger and great nephews and nieces including Scott & Julene Pappan, Steven Pappan, Robin Pappan, Bobby & Marie Clover, Mike & Pinky Clover, Scott & Debra Rennie, Teri House Manny, Katie House Garner, John Wesley Farnsworth, Jennifer Dixon, Kimberly Pettigrew Rauch, Brad Pettigrew, Jerrod and Cheryl Roark, Jamie & Sarah Roark, Lindsey Hosley Downing, Sahra Roark, Shon & Nadine Link, Amy Willingham Quinn, Shawna Harrison Krekel, Sherrill Harrison Basta, and Sheila Harrison Romiti along with many great-great nephews and nieces.
Samuel “Sammy” Adams Farnsworth, best buddy, ferocious protector and champion Doxie, will deeply miss his “Gramps” also.
“Chief” attended Pawnee Indian Boarding School from 1937-1945 and Chilocco Indian School from 1945-1947. His activities in school included lettering in baseball, football, basketball and track. He was also the President of the Junior Class. From 1951-1956, he served in the Army/Air Corp as a Tech Sargent. During his service, he received the Korean Service Medal with Bronze Service Star, the Good Conduct Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. He was also a graduate of University of Houston and worked for Curtin Matheson Scientific (CMS) for 30 years.
“Chief,” a decorated Korean War veteran, made friends with everyone he met. He was loved dearly and will be missed by all.
A visitation for "Chief" will be held on Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. A time of sharing will occur Saturday, May 5, 2018 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM in the same location. The family will host a reception at the home of Sue & Chief Farnsworth after the service.
