David Owen Wright

David Owen Wright, “Big Dave”, 66, of Spring, TX, passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on April 1, 2021. He was born in 1954 on Christmas Day in St. Louis, Missouri to parents Donald Owen Wright and Catherine Jeanette Wright.

David began his career in Municipal Operations at Hays Utility Service in 1973. After 28 years of devoted service, he co-founded TNG Utility Corporation with Richard “Chip” Callegari in 2001. The relationships David established will continue to influence the industry for years to come.

David was also a dedicated member at Grace Family Church serving as an elder, deacon, beloved Sunday school teacher, church camp leader, festival coordinator, and so much more. Outside of his church and career obligations, David served his community through his children’s youth sports. Never one to shy away from a challenge, he served as head coach, assistant coach, umpire, volunteer coordinator, athletic director, concessions coordinator, booster club member, fundraiser, and many other roles throughout the years. He recognized the importance of teamwork and loved investing his time in the lives of every child he had the privilege to coach.

His favorite role, and the one he was most proud of, was that of a devoted husband. He was married to his wife April (Woodard) Wright on June 1, 1973. They enjoyed cruising, listening to live music, visiting historical monuments, exploring state parks, traveling in their RV, and countless trips to Galveston, TX, where they honeymooned many years ago. As a loving father of 4, David was committed to providing a better life for his children and it showed in everything he did. He excelled in his role as grandfather, a.k.a. Pops, to his 8 adoring grandchildren. His constant encouragement and Christian influence has helped shape their lives and will undoubtedly continue as they honor his legacy.

David is survived by his wife, April Wright, and children; Wesley Owen Wright and wife Deidra Wright, daughter Dawn Rodgers and husband Aaron Rodgers, Johnathan Wright and wife Stefanie Wright, and Cody Wright; grandchildren Samuel Owen Rodgers, Meghan Wright, Bennett Owen Wright, Ellis Rodgers, Delaney Wright, Johnathan “Bubba” Wright, Oliver Rodgers, and Owen Wright; siblings, Danny Wright, Johnny Wright, Daryl Wright, Dennis Wright, Mickie Wright, and Cathy Wright.

David is preceded in rest by his parents Donald Wright and Catherine Jeanette Wright; his in-laws Bernard Woodard and Margaret Woodard; and his sister Teena Marler.

A visitation will be held in David’s honor from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 inside the Chapel of Calvary Hill Funeral Home, 21723 Aldine-Westfield Road, Humble, TX 77338. The Celebration of his life will commence at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at Champion Life Centre, 3031 FM 2920 Rd, Spring, TX 77388. Following the service, David will be escorted to the Calvary Hill Cemetery where he will be laid to rest.
