Lucia Mae Ryerson, 02/02/1922 to 12/07/2013, was born in Cedar Rapids Iowa. Lucia Mae Ryerson the loving mother of Jon, Lynne and Doug passed away peacefully in her home, Dec. 7th, 2013 surrounded by her loved ones, at the age of 91 years.
Doctor Karl E. Ryerson was her husband for 66 years and she was a devoted wife. Lucia was a Speech and English Major B.A graduate of Coe College in Iowa which was the first co-ed college in the USA during WWII. She worked at Collins Radio in Iowa during WWII before marrying Karl in 1943. Lucia, Karl, Jon and Lynne moved from Iowa to Southern California in 1952. Doug was born in California in 1953. The family moved to Modesto in 1955 and Lucia lived at 201 Audrey Ave for 58 years. Del Rio CC was one of her favorite spots in her life and she was a member of the women's 18 hole group. She made many "life-long friends" who will miss Lucia and she became a very accomplished golfer and the" best putter" in the Ryerson family. As a member of the Modesto Swim and Racquet she supported her children in their swimming, tennis and skiing endeavors. Many hours were spent in her safe travel and care. Lucia was a very accomplished bridge player and her bridge group was one of her great passions.
She is survived by her Sister Polly Porter of Palmdale, Ca., her children: Jon, Lynne, and Doug, grandchildren: Callie, Joel, Stephen and Shelby Ryerson, Brady, Logan, and Natalie Baumgartner, great-grandchildren, Blake and Andrea Baumgartner, also her many nieces and nephews who loved and adored her. Olivia Jara was Lucia's loving care giver for many years and also contributed to keeping Dr. Karl happy and healthy for many years. We are very grateful for her gift of giving.
Funeral services will be held at Lakewood Funeral Home in the Heritage Chapel, Visitation on Friday, Dec. 13th from 4-8pm. Chapel service on Saturday, Dec. 14th at 11:00am. Guest book available online at www.lakewoodhughson.com. Lucia will be missed greatly since she was one of the most respectful, loving and calming women we have ever known. We feel very blessed to have had Lucia in our lives. Amen
