James was born on April 19, 1944 to parents Clinton and Waunita Michael in Anderson, Missouri. James grew up in Hughson, California and graduated from Hughson High School. In 1963, he enlisted in the Navy from for 4 years. After leaving the service, he was employed at the Hershey plant for a few years, and then landed his career job at Owens Corning Fiberglas. He drove from Manteca to Santa Clara for 38 years, which he said was such a fantastic job that he truly loved.
He said that the best thing that ever happened to him was when he met the love of his life and married Sharon Mclain Michael. The two were married for over 40 years. Jim said “it just wasn't enough time with her” when she passed. He enjoyed all of the Christmas’, birthdays, and anniversaries that they both did for others, and he loved being a part of them all. Sharon and him went to Canada 13 times, traveling in their fifth wheel with family and friends.
Jim loved golfing, and loved seeing all of the beautiful golf course that he got to enjoy. He was part of the Ceres VFW Post 10293 for many years. After retiring from Owens Corning, his time was spent watching baseball, golfing and especially football with his favorite team, the San Francisco 49ers. A gentle giant (Big Jim) was a hard-working and devoted man, as well as a great listener. He was someone that was always very thankful and uplifting. He loved the Lord. He will be greatly missed by family and friends.
Jim is survived by his brothers Clyde (Gene) Michael and Jerry Michael; and sister Judy (George) Fontana. He is preceded in passing by the love of his life, wife Sharon Mclain Michael; and parents Clinton and Wauntia Michael.
A visitation for James will be held on Friday, December 20th from 12:00PM to 1:00PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, located at 900 Santa Fe Avenue in Hughson, CA in the Heritage Chapel. A funeral service will begin at 1:00PM. Following the funeral service will be a graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park in the Restland Garden.
Guests are encouraged to bring ear protection, as Ceres VFW Post 10293 will provide the Honor Guard will be present to perform a Volley of Three, TAPS, and ceremonial folding of the American flag.
