He was born on Jan 21, 1931 in Evansville, IN to Charles Houston and Dulcie Jane Dodd Machamer. Both parents were from Tennessee and, as a child, Bob spent many summers on Dulcie’s parents’ farm in Gibson Co., TN.
Their property adjoined the Davy Crockett homestead and Bob loved to talk about playing in Davy’s smokehouse with his older brother, John Quincy “Quin” Machamer.
He was a very accomplished sportsman, being exceptionally good at shooting pool and ping pong. He once beat noted pool shooter Willie Mosconi and the Cuban national Ping Pong champ. He started playing golf at age 12 and that kept him quite active throughout his life.
He also loved traveling, boating, scuba diving, genealogy, cooking and owning thoroughbred racehorses in addition to telling stories and drinking good wine.
He attended the University of Tennessee then returned to Cleveland, OH where his parents lived. He married Irene Mika there in 1952 and they had son Richard Michael.
He was president of Refinish Sales Associates for many years after leaving the family business, Dynatron/Bondo. Eventually he moved to Atlanta, GA to rejoin the business with brothers Quin and David as Refinish Sales Vice President.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Suzy Janine Webster, son Richard Michael Machamer and his wife Jill Noel of St. Louis, MO, granddaughter Christina Marie Machamer of Napa, CA, grandson Brandt Michael Machamer, Jasmine Waltman and great granddaughter Sophia Grace Machamer all of St. Louis, his brother David Dodd Machamer of Bonita Springs, FL, and niece Lisa Simone Machamer Murphy of Sarasota, FL and Cork, Ireland, the daughter of his late brother Quin; and step-son Jeffrey Todd Potts of Spotsylvania, VA.
If desired, donations in his name may be made to HPH Hospice.
