Ysidro Villarreal Jr., age 88, of Houston, Texas passed away on Friday, June 16, 2023. He was born in Santa Rosa, Cameron County, Texas on July 24, 1934 to Ysidro Villarreal Sosa and Leonarda Ochoa Carrillo.
Ysidro graduated from Edcouch Elsa High School, Edcouch Elsa Texas in 1954. He worked for the US Post Office from 1954 through 1956. He joined the US Army (1956-1958) and subsequently the Texas Army National Guard (1958-1962). Ysidro then started driving a dump truck for Red Miles until Red afforded him the opportunity to purchase his own truck. That started a fifty-year self-employment relationship with an industry he retired from at eighty years of age. He logged well over 1.5 million miles during tenure and was instrumental in opening many roads and streets in well-known and established Houston neighborhoods and highways. Ysidro was a Deacon and Treasurer of Primera Iglesia Bautista de Kinwood (1972-2014). Ordained Minister licensed by Primera Iglesia Bautista de Kinwood (2008). Deacon of Esperanza Baptist Church (2014-2023). He was an avid saltwater fisherman, deer hunter, gardener, reader, and studier of the Bible, and took interest in the arts. His favorite quote to those who would listen was “If you don’t vote, then don’t complain”.
Ysidro is preceded in death by his wife of 63 years Anita G. Villarreal; parents, Ysidro and Leonarda Villarreal; one brother and five sisters.
He is survived by his daughters, Dr. Diana V. Barfield (Mark), Cynthia V. Gervais, Sandra J. Sanders (Steve); sons, Ysidro (Lee) Villarreal III (Rosalinda), and Isaac Villarreal (Jaime); grandchildren, Shaunna V. Eguilior (Rafael), Tiffany R. Villarreal, Kimberly Villarreal, Matthew D. Eller (Christin), Ryan Esparza (Caitlin), Lindsey Reyes, Joshua Barfield, Charles Barfield, Kristin Hallam (James); great grandchildren, John Elijah Duron, Mauricio Duron Jr., Victoria Grace Eguilior, Jackson Case, Christian Case and Daniel James Eller.
A visitation for Ysidro will be held Friday, June 23, 2023 from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Brookside Funeral Home, 13747 Eastex Freeway, Houston, TX 77039. A funeral service will occur Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. A graveside service will occur Saturday, June 24, 2023 from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM at Brookside Memorial Park.
