She is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Lynn Norwood, and was the second youngest of seven brothers and sisters.
Billie is survived by her devoted son, Robert Allen, and his wife, Samantha, niece Jane Curlee and her husband, John, cousin Cindy Wisdom, and her husband John, James Winfrey, and his wife Pat, and numerous nieces, and nephews in Texas and Alabama.
Fondly known as “Bill or Billie” to family and friends, she moved to Houston as a young adult to begin her life and lived with her older sister, Florence Bishop, and her husband. As with many woman of her generation, Billie’s first career was being that of wife to Roy and a mother to Robert.
After the passing of her husband, Billie went to work in the Benefits Area with Southwestern Bell. She enjoyed her career working with her fellow employees and served them well for a number of years. Many who worked with her reflect fondly on her attention to detail and diligence on the job.
After retiring, she enjoyed lovely trips, many with her sister Florence, back to her home state of Alabama, distant shores of Hawaii, and the trip of a lifetime to Russia. While travel was an adventurous distraction, Billie enjoyed tending to her lovely azaleas each spring at her home in her longtime neighborhood of Meyerland, where she attended Westbury Methodist Church.
In her final years, Billie called the Plaza at the Buckingham her home. The staff was kind and made Billie’s years as she became a centenarian memorable and comfortable. The family is grateful for the consideration and love shown to Billie.
A memorial celebration of her life will be held Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Forest Park Westheimer. In lieu of floral memorials, if so inclined, please make a donation to the charitable foundation of your choice.
