He was one of 17 children. Sgt. Reed embraced his faith at an early age at Central Baptist Church in St. Louis Missouri, and later became a devoted member of Willing Workers Baptist Church in Houston, Texas, from 2011 until his passing.
Known for his infectious sense of humor, Sgt. Reed, affectionately called Bill, Billy, Po-Bill, and Pawpaw Bill was a cherished jokester who brightened the lives of all who knew him.
He graduated from Sumner High School and pursued two years of studies at the University of Missouri St. Louis. William enlisted in the United States Navy in 1944, courageously serving his country during World War II. Wounded in the war, he was medically discharged in 1947. Undeterred, William later reenlisted in the United States Air Force, bravely fighting in both the Korean War and Vietnam War.
After retiring from military service in 1971, Sgt. Reed embarked on a civilian career at Kroger, where he carted as an 18-wheeler technician.
In 1983, he crossed paths with the love of his life, Consuela Jolivet, in Houston, Texas. Their connection blossomed, leading to a joyous union in matrimony on June 15, 1986.
Bill enjoyed the richness of life through his love for travel, dominos, and watching sports on television. A proud member of VFW, American Legion, and Disabled American Veterans, Sgt. Reed actively contributed to the veteran community.
He is preceded in death by both parents and his 16 siblings. Sgt. Reed leaves behind a legacy of love and fond memories, cherished by his wife of 43 years, Consuela, his children, a multitude of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and a vast circle of family and friends, each holding a special place in his heart.
A visitation for William will be held Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Willing Workers Baptist Church, 6900 Weaver Rd, Houston, TX 77001. A funeral services will occur Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 11:00 AM, 6900 Weaver Rd, Houston, TX 77028. A burial committal will occur Thursday, January 25, 2024 at 2:15 PM at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive, Houston, Texas 77373.
