William Stephen “Steve” Hance, of Houston, Texas, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on May 24, 2018 at 12:15 A.M. in Houston, Texas at 70 years old. He was born in Champaign, Illinois on January 17, 1948 to Jacqueline Harbin Hance and James Mordecai Hance. He was a graduate of Houston Baptist University. Steve was an award-winning and gifted landscape designer that brought beauty, flare, and opulence to many prominent Houston locations. Back in the 70s and 80s, he was a celebrity spokesperson on ABC's Channel 13 with Don Nelson on Good Morning Houston. On the show, Steve would give advice to Houstonians on how to create beautiful gardens during different seasons. The name of his landscaping corporation was A-Arrow Landscape, which won many Prism Awards for Design. Steve was a big and unique personality. He had many gifts and talents; landscaping was not the only way he expressed himself. He also painted beautiful, large murals, expressive symbolic oil, and charcoal paintings. He was one of the first members of the Houstonian, where he was well known by members and staff. He had a passion for genealogy, history, psychology, genetics, landscaping, and learning about all religions.
He was preceded in death by parents Jacqueline Harbin Hance and James Mordecai Hance.
He is survived by Kimberly Branch, his best friend and ex-spouse, married in May 2002 and divorced in January 2010. Jacqueline LaCour Hance, his one and only beloved daughter; Patricia Orlando Barnes Casteig, sister; James Alton Hance, brother; James Travis Hance, Anthony Vincent Orlando, nephews; Lisa Kay Orlando, niece, and many aunts, uncles. and cousins.
