So Donte just turned 18. Senior year at North Shore. Was recently accepted into Dartmouth Ivy League University in New Hampshire. On an full academic scholarship. You'd be proud. It was a hard day yesterday; I watched the tribute movie for the first time. Wendell was such a good person. Mr. and Mrs. D, all his brothers and to his lovely wife and boys, I hope you are doing better. Love Betsy Smith, Wendell’s favorite teacher and gardening buddy

Condolences to the Deason Family, I was one of Mr.Deason students at Cobb in 2004, just currently been released from prison after during 4 years. Mr. Deason had an huge impact on my childhood, I didn’t like school but I loved Mr. Deason’s class. Lol I remember he use to scoot around the class in his rolling Chair Acting silly showing us he can Come down to our level and make us laugh, but he was about business when it was time for the test to be passed out and teaching. He made going to school fun and it hurts me dearly that he’s gone. I love you man R.I.P

I would like to first say my prayers and blessings are with the Deason Family during this difficult time. Wendell was great friend, classmate and teammate during our days back Lufkin. I enjoyed our times together which always included lots of laughter. His smile and character as a man was so infectious and a joy to be around. A pretty wise dude who always spread his wisdom and love to others. I know I will miss him and the Class of 97 as well at the reunions and get togethers. Rest easy my friend and as I will not forget you. God bless!

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Deason for the past two years at Green Valley Elementary. He always has a smile on his face. Always a great person to run into in the hallway. The kids loved him, we will all miss him greatly. 

I was saddened to hear of Wendell’s passing.  He was a great person and faithful to what he believed in.  Praying for strength for all of his family.

My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one.  May the Lord be with you and comfort you as you weather this horrific storm.

Earth has no sorrow that heaven can not heal. Be encouraged as God is Able to see you through this time of bereavement. 

My family has known Mr. and Mrs. Joe Deason for well over 50 years as my aunt, Dr. Nellie Ray Anderson attended Prairie View A&M with them. And I remember as a very young child in the 1970's when my Dad worked for World Book Encyclopedia and he had a co-worker who would come by and visit. He had a very distinct voice and laugh, and my brother and I thought when those two got together it was better than watching TV! 

Faster forward about 15 years later to 1993, now I am in my Junior year at PVAMU, and I hear this guy talking in my suitemates room and I say to myself "I know this voice", but I couldn't recall a name. So I went over there I heard someone call his full name, and it came back to me. Then I went up and asked him if his Dad ever said World Book and he said yes. And Malcolm Deason and I have been very close friends ever since.

Fast forward another 10 years, and I go to officiate a little league football game. My co-official was a big dude, and he was mild mannered and soft-spoken. After a while we get to talking and found out we were both PV grads and he said he had an older brother there the same time I was there, and when he said his name  I said "What, You must take after your mother!!" But I saw the resemblance.  I told Big Wendell Deason this was the best legal hustle going and that refs eat free. And that held true up until about a year ago until our last assignment together out in Crosby, Texas! I will cherish these and many many other good memories with Malcolm's little brother until I see him again on the other side.



I found joy and happiness from Mr. Deason's smile and calming spirit during his time at Green Valley Elementary.  He was a very kind and caring person.  My prayers are with his family.  May God give you strength and comfort during this difficult time.

My deepest condolences to his  wife, children, parents, extended families and friends. As a Sub-teacher it was an honor and I had the pleasure to work with Mr. Wendell Deason at Cobb 6th Grade Campus, San Jacinto & Green Valley Elementary School.  
Mr. Deason has a contagious smile, pleasant personality and always positive.  As Mr. Deason greeted me in the hall he was always the same these  were his  words, "Thank You" for all you do for our students,"  we  would chat for a few minutes, and as we departed, he would always say, Mrs. Denson have a wonderful day. Family & Friends  be encouraged and know he has  received his wings and resting in the arms of  our heavenly father. God's blessings to you at this difficult times.

 I grieve the loss of this great young man; his dad once said ‘ a parent’s true success is seeing the success of his children’. Wendell was a success in every sense of the word. I watched him grow from a child to a man, who loved all and was loved by all. He will be missed. We gardened and fished with other through Facebook, celebrating each other’s victories. I remember him welcoming me my first year as a new teacher and being a mentor as I was learning the ropes.  Fast forward many years and I had the pleasure of serving as one of his counselors when he became a principal.  He was always a very pleasant and kind soul and we talked many times about family and our love for fishing!  Wendell Deason, you will be missed! I had the pleasure of befriending Wendell in 7th grade and finished high school with him. Our senior year we had Home Economics together. Wendell and a group of us girls formed a stellar club to which we would play solitaire on the computer the whole class. We would crack up and Wendall would entertain us with his antics. Wendall had an awesome sense of humor and didn’t know a stranger. Joe and Francis raised an amazing son. He will be greatly missed. Continued prayers to his family. 

It was my honor to serve as Mr. Deason's secretary at Cobb 6th Grade Campus.  He was such a kind and caring soul.  Our sad loss, but heaven gained a special person.  (John 14:1-3) Prayers to his wife and sons, may God wrap each of you in his love.

I met Mr. Deason on my campus a couple of years ago.  Since that first moment; every other time I would see him he acted like we had been friends for years.  A very nice friendly person. I send prayers and condolence to his family.

Mr. Deason was a wonderful man and I enjoyed working with him two years ago. He helped the students and was very kind to me and the others that worked in the office with him. He will be missed condolences to him and his family.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Deason at JCE. He would stop by my classroom to talk with my Kindergarten students on a weekly basis. The kids loved him. The one thing I will always remember about Mr. Deason is his contagious smile. He always had a smile on his face and a story to tell. He was a wonderful person who spread positivity wherever he went. My prayers are with the family during this difficult time. God has truly gained an angel.

I had the pleasure of working with Mr. Deason when I first started my educational career. He was always very supportive of me, offered me advice when I asked, or comfort when I was feeling overwhelmed. He truly was a man of great character whose smile could instantly brighten your day. I feel blessed to have known him and my prayers go out to his family and friends during this trying time.

A Classmate, A Friend, A Member of the Body of Christ.  We grew up in church and as Classmates. Class of 97 will always remember your out going spirit that had carried with you through the years.  Prayers goes out to His Wife and Kids also to his Mother and Father as well as his Siblings. We love you.. Never Forgotten. 

Today I pause to extend my sincere condolences to the Family of Wendell Deason. May you find comfort in knowing absence from the body is presence with the Lord. I talk to Wendell about a week ago. I had two missed calls and I immediately called back. We talk for a lengthy amount of time. I told him that God had a plan for his life and he was going to be a testimony. He told me he loved me and would call me back. Never would I have imagine that was our last conversation. Take your rest my gentle giant. We will understand it better by and by. 

My deepest sympathy goes out to the Deason Family and friends for your loss.  Wendell's smile and genuine kindness always brightened the room. He and I would always mingle a few minutes before our numerous administrator meetings to talk about where the red fish were running, crabs were hiding, or bass were hitting and even when it was time to plant vegetables, especially tomatoes. He will be greatly missed by myself and his Galena Park ISD family. My prayers are with you through these difficult times ahead.

I only had a chance to meet and visit with Wendell on a couple of occasions but I immediately knew he would be a new friend for me.  He was a wonderful person and showed love and friendship to my son in law that could not be mistaken.  You will be missed, but always thought of as my new friend.  God bless and watch over you

My table would be a mess but it was ok because we were handling 
business! I’m going to miss you dearly Deason! As you say, I was your second mama, counselor and friend and coworker!!
Even at the end we were still having lunch together. I get it delivered to you via Door Dash and then we talk and eat like we always had done!! My BFF gone to soon!!!

Kathy and I cannot imagine the enormous pain that you both must be experiencing right now. You did an excellent job raising all three of your sons.  Wendell was the little boy that we remember fondly running around at the Johnson Family Reunion back in the eighties. He was just a few years older than our four daughters. He lived his life fully in a very short time. We are praying for you and Wendell’s family. May God continue to give you strength.
