Wayne E Schroeder

Times were hard in Wayne’s early life, as his father died in 1944. With much help from relatives, teachers and others doing God’s work, Wayne persevered. Wayne graduated at age 20 from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration. During his time at Sam Houston, Wayne was a charter member of The Scots, famously part of the Un Kappa Phu, and instrumental in the formation and growth of the Texas ETA chapter of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. His grades were good, and he served as Class President in Summer 1958.

He served in the Texas Air National Guard starting in 1958, with honorable discharge as Staff Sgt in 1964.

Wayne went on to work in downtown Houston, with a career in oil and gas accounting spanning 42 years. Wayne retired in February 2000, after 27 years with Quintana Petroleum. He was a CPA and also held a real estate broker license.

In 1966, Wayne met the love of his life, Sandra Rompf, at General Crude Oil Company. They were married in 1967. Wayne and Sandra raised their two children in Jersey Village, Texas. He and Sandra were active during the formative years of The Foundry United Methodist Church, where he served as Treasurer for three years.

He enjoyed fishing, auto and home maintenance, and long driving vacations with multitudes of photos documenting the trips.

Wayne is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Lonnie and sister-in-law Jayne, and his brother Roland (Dick), as well as his in-laws Barkley and Vivian Rompf.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sandra, daughter Kara Lyn Deis (Jason), son Dr. Bradley Wayne Schroeder (Gretchen), grandsons Christian and Michael Deis, and Korvin Schroeder, and nephew Richard Lonnie Schrader, as well as first cousins Jean Schroeder Banker and Glenn Schroeder, sister-in-law Karen Potts (Maurice) and brother-in-law Barkley Lynn Rompf (Patty).

Services will be held at The Foundry Church, 8350 Jones Road, Houston, Texas 77065 at 11am on Friday, August 27, 2021. Internment will follow in the afternoon at the Needville Public Cemetery.
