Walter Allen Flowers was born on March 26, 1930 in a small farming community in west Texas, the youngest of four children of Mary Ethel and Joe Leonard Flowers. He grew up on his parents’ dry-land cotton farm near Lamesa, Texas during the great depression. He survived and was molded by the depression, drought, and dust bowl days and is an example of the saying that “What does not kill us, makes us stronger.”
He served our country as a United States Marine when he was a young man. Walter was happily married to Euldine Lillian Flowers for 45 years. Together they operated a very successful business along the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels, Texas for many years. After retirement they traveled extensively. He took excellent care of Euldine until her death following a 15-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.
Walter lived out his final years at the Conservatory at Champion Forest, an independent living community in Houston, Texas. There he enjoyed the friendly residents, made many friends enjoyed a special friendship with fellow resident, Betty White. He loved games and especially the Sunday poker games with old friends from his previous residence. Trish and Jim Costello were very good friends of his and helped him with many things during his time in Houston.
Even though he suffered from multiple health issues during his later years, he always maintained a positive, outgoing attitude. He was a private person and not one to wish a lot of to-dos made about his passing. The world has lost a unique and very special person .and he will be greatly missed.
A private family burial is scheduled for Wednesday, August 31, 2022 at 11:00 AM at the Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.
