A talented artist who enjoyed traveling and was deeply devoted to her family, Virginia Lang Clark passed away on Tuesday, December 14, 2021, in Spring Texas. Virginia was born on November 24, 1928, in Galveston, Texas, to Amelia Muzar Lang and Edward George Lang. She graduated from Reagan High School in Houston and worked for a short time in downtown Houston until she met and married the love of her life, Marshall Gilbert “Gill” Clark, in October, 1948. In 1949, her daughter Shannon was born, followed in 1956 by a son, Kevin.
The family took many camping vacations, traveling around Texas and the southeastern US. After the kids were grown, Virginia and Gill ventured even further, pulling their camper trailer to faraway places like New York City, Michigan, and Minnesota.
In midlife, Virginia returned to an earlier interest, oil painting, and found she was still quite talented. She attended art classes, where her lovely realistic landscapes and portraits won a number of awards.
Virginia was, above all, a dedicated homemaker who worked hard to care for her family. Everybody’s favorite aunt, she hosted many gatherings for her large extended family. The family photographer, she went to great pains to make sure everyone was posed just right before she snapped the picture. And Virginia was a great cook—her grandsons could never get enough of her wonderful shrimp gumbo and cornbread.
As young adults, Virginia and Gill became part of a group of six couples, including Virginia’s brother Eddie and his wife Florence, who met regularly to play poker. They played together for over fifty years, but never went over a three-cent limit.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Shannon Clark Curry, her son Kevin Clark and wife Carolyn, grandsons Christopher and Kyle Clark, bonus grandchildren Lynnette Curry Craig and Michael Curry, bonus great-grandchildren Jacob and Ashley Craig, and Kyle and Elizabeth Curry, fourteen nieces and nephews, and a host of grand and great-grand nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward Lang and Amelia Lang Pearson, brother Eddie Lang, husband Marshall Gilbert Clark, son-in-law Donald Curry, bonus grandson Alan Curry, and nephew David Crawford.
Virginia’s family would like to offer special thanks to Gregory and Tracy Clark, and Lynette Craig, who went above and beyond to be helpful the past few years, and to nurse/care managers Kelly Freeman and Darelle Robbins, whose work helped Virginia sustain a good quality of life in spite of declining health.
A private burial will be held on Thursday, December 30 at Hollywood Cemetery. Please stay tuned for more information on a public memorial service, planned for sometime in the spring.
Friends may contact the family at [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, friends may donate to mdanderson.org. Or, just be extra nice to someone today. Virginia would like that.
