It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our mother, Vanessa Brown, who departed from this world on July 31, 2024, after a beautifully lived 68 years of life. Vanessa was a beacon of unwavering faith, resilience, love and kindness; her absence leaves a void in our hearts. Vanessa walked through life with gentle strength, touching the lives of everyone she encountered with an unforgettable grace. A lover of God, pets, landscaping, No Limit song by Usher, and We Dem Boys by Wiz Khalifa (don’t judge her, lol.) Vanessa found beauty in life’s simple moments and encouraged us all to do the same.
Vanessa was born March 16, 1956, in Chicago, Illinois and raised by her parents Annie B. and Edward Davis; she was the oldest of three children. Vanessa devoted her life to Christ at an early age and was a member of Universal Temple of Faith, Chicago, IL, where her mother was the pastor. Vanessa graduated from Gage Park High School and shortly after graduation she began working for Swedish Hospital where she met her husband Jerry Sr. who she would marry on July 8, 1979. She became proud mother of six boys and would often jokingly say that she knew that God would give her a girl someday, but we see God had other plans. After most of her boys moved to Texas, she decided to join them in Houston Tx in 2014 and was filled with joy and happiness in watching her children and grandchildren grow.
Although she worked 20 years in retail, Vanessa often said her most important job was being a mother. She is preceded in death by her mother Annie B. Davis. Vanessa is leaving a legacy through her husband Jerry Sr.; Sons: Leroy, Jerry Jr. (Chubby), Jonathan, Chris, Josh, Joel; Daughter In-laws: Veronica (Leroy), Alyssa (Chubby), Wintana (Jonathan) and Imani (Josh); Grandchildren: Rishan, Jayla, Jasinya, Jerry III, Jeremiah, Jonathan Jr and Julian; Great Grandchildren: Ariah and Liam; Father, Edward; and Brothers: Timothy and Keena; along with countless family and friends who felt her warmth and generosity.
Anyone who knew Vanessa will always remember her smile, laughter and fun spirit.
