Mae was born on October 10, 1934 in Houston, Texas, where she was raised and spent most of her life.
One day, while sitting in her 11th grade English class at Jefferson Davis High School, “the cutest red-headed boy” walked into the room. She went home that very day and told her mother she was going to marry that red-headed boy. And that is exactly what she did the following year when she married the love of her life, Zed Dennison, on March 26, 1952. Their marriage was to last 63 years, until Zed passed in August, 2015. They are now together again, dancing to The Tennessee Waltz.
Mae was a loving mother, raising three sons who, along with their father were her greatest joys. The family spent many days together boating, camping and exploring the outdoors.
She began her professional career as a dedicated and much-loved school secretary at Sharpstown Junior High School. Then, in 1981, she founded her own company, TMJ Enterprises, which she ran for 37 years along with her youngest son, Ted. Mae Dennison was an active member of numerous professional organizations during her successful career, including the Houston Professional Products Association and Tomball Business and Professional Women. In 1994, the Federation of Houston Professional Women presented her with their prestigious Woman of Excellence Award.
Mae was preceded in death by her husband, Zed Dennison, son, Ted Dennison, brother R.B. Haywood, sister Leola Boswell and her parents, Roy and Cassie Haywood. She is survived by her sons, Robert Dennison and wife Mary, and Jack Dennison; daughter-in-law, Doreen Dennison; grandchildren Lisa Dennison and husband Jeff Woodruff, Dylan Brown and wife Lansing, Amanda Rice, Dorrie Dennison, Perrie Dennison and Ross Dennison; great grandchildren Chloe Brown, Maddy Brown, Dallas Brown, Ellis Zed Dennison-Woodruff, Lucas Parsons and her best friend of almost 60 years, Irene Anderson of Invermere, BC, Canada.
