Tommy Johnson was born on June 4, 1941, in Livingston, Texas, to T. Z. and Ernestine Johnson. He
was the second of eight children. Tommy was baptized at the age of 8 years old at Metropolitan Baptist Church, under the leadership of Rev. R. P. Pruitt. He attended Ryan Elementary School and
Booker T. Washington High School in Houston, Texas.
As a little boy, Tommy’s dream was to play the guitar and drive BIG trucks, and he lived out those dreams.
He and his brother, Ernest, along with Jimmy and Willie Cole, formed a gospel group, called The Omega
Aires. They traveled abroad, singing. Tommy also drove 18-wheeler trucks all over the country for 32
years, and played guitar for his group for many years.
In 2000, Tommy married the former Rose Bailey. He was blessed to be the father of four children.
On May 25, 2024, Tommy Johnson departed this life. He was preceded in death by his mother, Ernestine Johnson, and father, T. Z. Johnson; his two brothers, Ernest and Charles Johnson; and his baby sister, Brenda Clark.
He leaves, to cherish his memory: his wife of 24 years, Rose Johnson; his four children: Blynthia, Chandra, Terrance, and Jerald Johnson, all of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren: Benicia Haynes, Mariah Mitchell, and Adric Johnson; three sisters: Edna Cannon, Juanita Holloman (Thomas), Shirley Sampy Valier (Ivan), one brother, Harry Dean Lewis (Deborah); and a host of nieces, nephews, other family
A visitation for Tommy will be held Saturday, June 1, 2024 from 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM at Paradise Funeral Home, Inc, 10401 West Montgomery, Houston, TX 77088, followed by a funeral service from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM.
