Tommie Lenton transitioned on December 11, 2023 at the age of 82 in Missouri City, Texas. She was born in the heart of Houston, Texas to the proud parents of Lewis and Katie Wilson. She spent her days accompanying them to her grandfather’s church and helping her mother in the kitchen. Tommie was committed to God and dedicated her life to Christ at an early age, under the tutelage of her grandfather. She was a very loving and selfless women who never hesitated to speak her mind. She was a protector of her family and extended family as well.
At the age of 16, Tommie locked eyes with her forever love, Curtis Eugene Lenton Sr. They were married in May of 1958. Into that union, 3 children were born. Cynthia Lenton-Gary, Curtis Lenton Jr. and Carla Lenton Johnson.
Tommie welcomed each of her grandchildren and anyone else who needed love and light. She prepared meals for her family, friends, football teams, churches, and anyone else who needed a hot meal to warm their souls. She had an unconditional love for her family and instilled in them the belief that they were capable of achieving their dreams. She had a fondness for designers purses, Lay’s potato chips, hamburgers and Hershey’s Kisses. Nothing put a smile on her face like family time. She enjoyed riding with her daughters to run errands and taking vacations. She also enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and great grandchildren on weekends. She spoke life into all of her babies, whether blood or bonus. She was a staple in her community and genuinely loved the people in her life with all her heart.
Tommie was a member at Revive Bible Church. She made the decision to join Revive because it was her first religious experience where the members of the church felt like her family. Revive Bible Church brought her great joy. She possessed a true love for her Pastor Otis Latin and First Lady Roslyn Latin. Her family was so important to her. Even in her last days she reminded them to stay together. Her last two Sundays featured family dinner at Mawmaw’s house.
Tommie attended Dogan Elementary for her primary education and later graduated from Kashmere High School. She furthered her education at Houston Community College. Throughout her life she held many positions, but her favorite was being the Director of Transportation at Gulf Coast Community Service Association. She was also Assistant Director at the Fort Bend County Women’s Shelter. Additionally, she was owner-operator of a restaurant and night club.
Tommie Lenton is survived by her husband Curtis Lenton Sr.; Her sister, Bernadean Green and her children, Cynthia Lenton Gary (Everette-EJ), Curtis Lenton Jr.
(Belinda), Carla Lenton Johnson (Gregory). She was also the loving Grandmother to Everette-EJ, II (Jean), Ronnie Richardson (Tiffany), Édrian Gary (Ebony), Emmanuel (Mannie) Gary, Princess Johnson Lane (Aaron), Sir Curtis Lenton, Curvis Lenton, Curshalyn Lenton, Tonyel Green, Damon Green (Darchell), and Britton Larkin. She adored her great grandchildren, Johan, Jacen, Mason, Greyson, Maddix, Emani, Armani, Éva, Aaris, Don’Kaden, Cyrie, Dazi, Daphni and Britton II.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lewis Wilson and mother, Katie Wilson.
