He met and was married to Toni (Antonia) Herrera for 47 years until her passing in 2003. They have four wonderful children together.
Tim was born to Daniel Sanchez Martinez and Justina (Muro) Martinez in Glen Flora, Texas on August 22, 1935. He was the eldest of 6 boys and 1 girl, and was also blessed with stepsisters and stepbrother. While growing up living in a small town in south Texas where English was their second language, Tim excelled by graduating high school and attending business school. He recalls as a boy fetching water from the well as their home had no running water.
He joined the United States Air Force at the age of 19, and was stationed at Lackland Air Force Base TX as well as in Labrador Canada. After service, Tim joined the import/export shipping company Constable & Madison, where he worked many years reaching the ranks of Vice President. He later started his own shipping company, Mundial Forwarding.
When his children were in their teens, Tim ran for City Councilman. He was an honorary Harris County Sheriff Deputy. He was a small business owner of a café & pool hall. He also enjoyed playing in a men’s bowling league and brought home trophies and winnings. After a busy day at work, he enjoyed spending time at home with his family, and barbequing, as well as visiting with his brothers & hunting. Tim was a long-time member of the Freemasons.
He is survived by his four children and their spouses Nora Morales (Samuel), Sonia DeSouza (Esmond), Suzanne Crawford (Ian), Ricardo Martinez (Deborah); 6 adult grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
His family wishes to thank the staff at Park Manor, Tomball TX for the care and compassion they have shown dad the past several months.
Tim Martinez’s resting place will be the Garden of Devotion area at Brookside Cemetery in Houston alongside his wife, Toni. Tim always considered himself to be a very lucky man. He will be missed.
