Tommy married Ruth March 18, 1975 and they moved to Splendora, TX in 1979, where they built their home and lived for many years until moving to Mart, TX in September 2019.
Tommy loved to hunt and fish. He was a “farmer” and always had a garden, chickens, hogs and lots of other animals and dogs and cats throughout his years. He loved the outdoors and many times he would go out and sit in his “back 40” all day, watching birds, squirrels and the cats roaming around the yard and just piddle in his garden or with his fishing poles or work on his chain saws or lawnmower or anything else to keep him outdoors.
He was a good father, husband and grandpa. He had a good life and enjoyed himself; making people laugh was his thing. Even in his last days, he was pretending not to know one of his nieces and asking her if she’d marry him. The day before he went home, he had lots of family there and you could see the smile he had, getting to see them one last time. He was ready to go fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents; all 14 of his siblings; and a stepdaughter.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Ruth Newman Meyka; children, Debra Sheffield, Tommy L. Meyka, Terri Gill; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; and many other loving family members.
Tommy will be dearly missed by all who loved him.
Keep on fishin’ daddy.
