Thomas “Richard” Golding passed away peacefully on October 25, 2017 at the age of 90. Richard was born in Houston, TX to parents Cecile and Leo Golding on February 26, 1927. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Ruby Lamb Golding of 64 years, his son James Golding and his sister, Bernice McCorkle.
Ruby and Richard were married in Houston where they lived and raised 5 children (Tom, Cheryl, James, John and Marie). They were blessed with a large family including 9 grandchildren (Michael, Lauren, Jeniffer, Jamie, Theresa, Lindsey, Emily, Nicholas and Garrett) and 11 great grandchildren (Matthew, Zowie, Kingston, Dillon, Josslynn, Landon, Hunter, Layla, Brooklyn, Taylor and Natalie). He was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather who truly enjoyed spending time with all of his family.
Richard was a native Houstonian and graduate of St. Thomas High School in Houston. He enlisted in the Army and served during World War II in the Panama Canal. He attended St. Mary’s University in San Antonio and graduated with a degree in accounting. He spent the majority of his career working at Transco Energy Company and later at Williams Company. After retirement, Richard was very involved with volunteer work for numerous organizations, including the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, American Cancer Society where he generously transported patients to and from their outpatient appointments, The Houston Food Bank, The End Hunger Network, March of Dimes, and the National Federation of the Blind of Texas.
He enjoyed sports and particularly enjoyed working as an usher for Rice University athletics and the River Oaks Tennis tournament for many years. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling with the Transco bowling team. He enjoyed anything to do with trains and loved old movies and historical documentaries.
Richard is survived by his sister Patricia Schneider, his children and their spouses, Tom Golding of Bartlesville, OK, Cheryl and Tom Cohen of Houston TX, John and Mary Golding of Spring, TX and Marie and Darrell Hanes of Cypress TX, his many grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as nieces and nephews.
Due to Richard’s long time affiliation with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, the family suggests that you consider donating “the gift of life”.
