Ted was born in Waco, Texas, but lived his life in Houston. He graduated from The Kinkaid School and The University of Texas, where he was a member of Phi Gamma Delta and The Texas Cowboys. He went on to graduate from the University of Houston School of Law and had a successful career as litigation attorney in the energy field. He had a big heart and gave generously of his time to the organizations that were meaningful to him. He served as a board member of the Trotter Family YMCA, the Teen and Family Services and was a former director of the Epilepsy Foundation. He was a member of the Texas Bar Association, The Houston Bar Association and an officer in The San Jacinto Chapter of The Sons of The Republic of Texas.
Ted was always active. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially enjoyed all of the activities and the time he spent with friends and family in Crested Butte, Colorado. He loved cycling and was preparing for his 6th MS 150 bike ride.
Ted never met a stranger. His unique sense of humor and compassion made all who knew him know that they were special to him. He loved and was loved by all of his friends and family. Ted is survived by his children, Jake and Marlee Westmoreland; his parents, Jim and Mary Sue Westmoreland; his sisters, Susan McConkey and her husband Scott and Laura DeVega and her husband Nelson. He was also adored by his four nieces and nephews, Greg and Shannon McConkey and Lila and David DeVega.
Ted will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Friends are cordially invited to a visitation with the family from five o'clock in afternoon until eight o'clock in the evening on Wednesday, the 6th of April, in the Library and Grand Foyer of Geo. H. Lewis & Sons, 1010 Bering Drive in Houston.
The funeral service is to be conducted at three o'clock in the afternoon on Thursday, the 7th of April, in the Sanctuary of Chapelwood United Methodist Church, 11140 Greenbay Street in Houston.
Honored to serve as casketbearers during Thursday's service are Marshall Adkins, Ned Barnett, Brad Berry, Dennis Johnston, Charles Kelly, Scott McCool, Mark Nini, Cliff Roberts, John Rutherford, and Bud Worthington.
In lieu of customary remembrances, contributions may be made in Ted's name to the Trotter Family YMCA, 1331 Augusta Dr., Houston, TX, 77057, Attn: Ted Westmoreland Memorial; or to Teen and Family Services, 9337 B Katy Fwy, PMB 314 , Houston, TX, 77024.
