She moved to Port Arthur, TX at three years old. Joann graduated from Bishop Byrne High School and Port Arthur Business College. She was a homemaker, although she also had a sewing room, and was a dressmaker/designer for notable working women, along with evening gowns for balls and galas in town. She was an accomplished pianist and was the organist for St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Port Arthur for many years. The family moved to Houston in 1973. Joann later became a master quilter and lacemaker. She was an active member of many social clubs, including antique study, ladies reading, Ascension Episcopal Church Daughters of The King and supper club, to name a few.
Joann loved and studied antiques, becoming a collector and a licensed dealer, and she called her business "Just Lovely Antiques".
She was an avid reader and gardener. She enjoyed "thrifting for bargains" and watching Texans Football, also spending time and holidays with her family. She was a fantastic cook and hostess.
She later worked for Astroworld and Six Flags, then for Trammell Crow and Exxon.
Joann is preceded in death by her parents, Charles Warren and Linda Marie Wyble Breaux, and her son, Phillip Jeffrey Guilbeau.
Joann leaves behind her daughter Rachel Ellen Messina and husband Victor W. Yang MD, son Matthew Charles Greer and partner Mary Peaster, grandchildren Rebecca Lauren Messina and partner Richard Paul VanMeurs, Julia Louise Messina, Emilie Chaisson Greer, Payton Gable Greer, Step Grandaughter Elizabeth Yang Harrelson and husband Jonathon Michael Harrelson, and their sons, Aiden Patrick, Ian Michael and Gabriel Alexander Harrelson. Great grandchildren Avery Elaine Weeks and Caiden Matthew Lopez, Aunt Marie "Noonie" Schexnailder and several cousins.
A worship service celebrating the life of Joann will be held on Saturday, December 11, 2021 at 1:00 pm at Ascension Episcopal Church, 2525 Seagler Road in Houston. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and all that knew her.
