Sylvia Kate Ontiveros Herdejurgen, 82, went to be with The Lord Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Sylvia was born in Houston, TX, February 9, 1941, the middle child of Peter Paul Ontiveros, Sr. and Stella Barrera Ontiveros. She worked in the family grocery and restaurant business in Port Houston as a checker, stocker, waitress and busser. She met her husband Art while working at the restaurant and when they married, she became a wife and mother of three overnight. She was a loving Memaw in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of First Methodist Church Houston and Logos Sunday school class. Sylvia shared her smile and love for travel and volunteering with family and friends. She is survived by her brother, Gilbert Charles Ontiveros and wife Nancy of Kingwood, TX; her daughters, Nancy Hatton and husband Marvin of Houston, TX; Barbara Fregia and husband Wilson of Dayton, TX; her sons, Arthur Herdejurgen, Jr. and wife Kay of Highlands, TX; Russell Herdejurgen and wife Cheryl of The Woodlands, TX; Seann Herdejurgen and wife Kate of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter in law Anita and husband Willie Shipman of Humble, TX; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; childhood friend Jean Johnson and many other longtime friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Arthur Boyce “Sonny” Herdejurgen, Sr.; her parents and sister, Ruth Bowman; brothers, Peter Paul Ontiveros, Jr. and Robert Paul Ontiveros; and grandson Thomas Anton Herdejurgen. Visitation is Monday, May 8 at 10 am immediately followed by funeral services at 11:15 am at First Methodist Church Houston, 1320 Main St @ Clay followed by interment at Glenwood Cemetery, 2525 Washington Ave.
