Steven Ray Whatley

Steve was born in Kilgore, TX on September 9, 1952. He is preceded in death by father Jack R. Whatley, mother Jeanne K. Lanning, and older brother Jack Whatley.

Steve’s family moved to Shreveport soon afterwards where he grew up. Steve worked in various positions after high school.

Steve and Wathena Whatley were married June 11, 1981, and recently celebrated 40 years together. They moved to Spring, TX after marrying where they have resided since. Steve has worked in the Houston construction equipment rental business for the past 35 years in management and sales positions. He recently retired from Equipment Depot in January, 2021.

Steve is survived by son Pax Whatley (from a previous union), wife Tanya and granddaughter Carley.

Steve is also survived by daughters Amanda J. Crain, husband MMNCS (SS) Seth Crain, granddaughters Collins, Reagan and Ryan; daughter Adrienne K. Whatley, husband Austin Warax and grandsons Trip, Riker and Teagan. Special extended family members are Alexa and Anthony Carrasco along with Ashlynn, Aven and Axlee. Additional lifelong extended family members are the Mike and Sandy Skobla family including Mikey Skobla, Lucas Henry, wife Tiffany, sons Bryce and Dylan along with Nickie Kennedy, husband Zane and daughters Zoie and Zadie.

Steve was active with his daughters’ Girl Scout Troops in their early years along with coaching softball. Weekends also included four-wheeling and crawfish boils with friends. He had a lifelong love of boating with some bass fishing on the side along with the occasional golf game with friends. NASCAR was also a special part of his life and he enjoyed traveling to various tracks with extended family friends. He had recently grown especially fond of traveling and road trips with wife Wathena.

Steve’s favorite times were with his family and his extended family. He was a favorite with the children as he knew so well how to entertain and make them feel special and was known to them as Pawpaw or Pawpaw Steve. He will be missed by many who called him husband, dad, Pawpaw, brother or friend.
