Steve was born on May 11, 1956 in Dalhart, Texas, and raised on a farm. After college, he moved to Houston, and worked in the automotive industry for many years, retiring as a service manager. He was an active member of the Cook-off team “PZ and the Master Basters”, who competed in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo World's Championship Bar-B-Que Contest Cook-off, sponsored by D&C Contracting where he met the love of his life, Nancy. Steve provided life and love to frequent family gatherings, preparing meals for his friends and loved ones.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy Artz; his son, Steven Zachary Artz; step-son and step-daughter, Matthew Bernard and Cassie Shanks; son-in-law Michael Shanks; his grandchildren, Kenzie and Gavin Shanks; his brother David and wife Linda, brother Kenneth and wife Kathy; his nephews and niece, Brian, James, Kevin, and Kelly Artz; and his best friend, the white Labrador Butters.
He is preceded in death by parents Ralph Artz and Peggy Green.
