Stephen Rex Eaton passed away peacefully on Thursday May 9, 2024 in Richmond, Texas after a battle
with liver cancer. He was the second son of David F. Eaton Jr. and Doris H. (Davis) Eaton, born October 1,
1945.
He was raised in West Texas, chiefly Littlefield, and obtained a degree at West Texas State University. His
career was as a tax assessor/collector (following in his father’s footsteps) in several Texas cities, until
retirement from Brazoria County Appraisal District about 20 years ago. He did work for several more
years in tax appraisal, and as an assistant teacher in Richmond, for LCISD. He was a member of the
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).
Steve was an avid admirer and collector of vintage autos, especially classic Chevys, and he spent many
happy hours at auto meets in his spare time. He was an accomplished painter, inheriting the artistic
talent of his mother. He was a man driven by love of his country and of family and friends, and by the
values of hard work and personal responsibility.
Steve was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam war, serving aboard the vessels USS Kawishiwi and USS Hector.
He met his wife Akiko and they married in 1971. He was preceded in death by his father and mother. He
is survived by his wife Akiko and his brother Michael; also by his nephews Scott and Jeffrey and niece
Laurel, and their spouses and children.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 7th, 2024 at 10:45am at Houston National Cemetery, 10410 Veterans Memorial Drive in Houston Texas 77038. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars, or to the charity of your choice.
